I have a Cluster with >25hosts and >100 Datastores. I leverage StorageDRS Clustering and don't see any issues. Create SDRS clusters with your design considerations and requirements in mind. Duncan Epping & Frank Denneman do a wonderful job outlining SDRS in their book VMware vSphere 5.1 Clustering Deepdive and will definitely help you out.
