How to enable 3D acceleration on Ubuntu 13.04?

I have been having issues getting Vmware workstation 9.0.2 to accept that I am running a nvidia opengl capable driver. I assume that this is because I use vncserver-virtuald to login to my machine. I have a GTX 520 in the machine, and am using "nvidia-current" package.

However, every time I launch a VM, I always see the message that I am not running compatible drivers that support openGL.

When I run the nvidia settings tool, it tells me that xorg is not configured so I run "sudo nvidia-xconfig" and restart the X server, yet still I am not able to use OpenGL, I assume because of the way VNC calls the new display.

Is there a proper way to call or enable OpenGL on a system where I login with vncserver-virtuald?

How should I configure the system to use OpenGL drivers?
