Re: Stuck at logo screen while booting on VMWare Workstation

$

Now,I can boot to my desktop already. I'm not stuck at boot logo anymore. That's strange. The cause of a problem may come from I choose the option that let VMWare Workstation create a virtual disk in a single file not multiple files as VMWare's default option and I disconnect any CD Drive and Virtual Printer from my Ubuntu VM.

Anyway, Thanks for your help

Ubuntu 14.04LTS server / VMWare Workstation 10

Ubuntu server v. 14.04 appears only to be released in a 64bit version. Previous versions were released in a 32 bit version, which were installable on Workstation 10. I have the latest version of workstation 10, but it won't install the 64bit version of ubuntu server 14.04, giving a message that says "this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot. Please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU." I am running workstation on Win7 with a Core I7 CPU. Can anyone point me to a workaround or procedure for installing, or will I have to wait either for Ubuntu or VMWare to provide updates? Thanks.

Error downloading client support files for vSphere 5.0 client

$

Dear all,

I'm new to VMware and learning ESXi 5.0. I built my ESXi 5.0 host and then downloaded the vSphere 5.5 client. Since I just have one host; vSphere 5.5 client can manage that. I installed the client and input host's management IP address, along with root/configured password. It gave certificate warning then said it needs to download client support files. It always timed out with following error message as you can see.

I'm running client on high speed LAN connection, i even changed connections to see if internet access is the issue. It is simplest setup at home, 1 host, one windows 7 computer (with vSphere client installed) both connected to my DSL modem/router. The client support files won't download doesn't matter what. Help please!!

Could you please post the vmware.log file from inside the virtual machine directory?  Attach it to your reply by choosing Use advanced editor in the top-right of the compose screen, then choosing the Browse... button below to select the file to attach.

Thanks,

Re: Annoying Beep in Workstation 10.0

This issue is addressed in Workstation 10.0.2, which was recently released.

After updating Workstation, the VM should no longer issue PC speaker beeps when booting with an AHCI or SCSI controller which has an attached a CDROM drive but no hard disk drives.  If you have snapshots of running VMs, or if you have suspended VMs, those VMs will receive the fix when they next power off– restarting/rebooting the guest is not sufficient, and they will continue to issue spurious beeps if they are rebooted before the next guest power off/power on.

This issue is corrected in Fusion 6.0.3, which was recently released.  If you haven't already done so, you might wish to download the update and try again.

Please let us know if you continue to encounter any problems!

Hey, the vSphere client needs to be the same version as the host you want to manage. That's why it wants to download files.

In your browser go to https://your-esxi-ip/

There you can find a direct download link for the vsphere client installer.

Hey welcome to the communities,

your Raid 5 is offline, so 2 disks failed at once?

You can rebuild your RAID an reinstall esxi, or if you don't have disks available, you could install esxi on an USB stick, boot it and then you can access your VMFS.

Hello, AA2913.

is it possible that your disks united in 2 RAID1 Arrays, so you see the logical disks not the physical disks when installing the ESXi? You can check it in your storage controller properties, for example in LSI utility for LSI Cntrollers, i guess you can reach it in UEFI, or on the stage of server starting in case of Legacy mode.

If 73gb is a nominal capactiy - you will never get the volume with same capactiy. If the storage capacity is the thing you carry about - i guess you should rebuild you disk array with the storage utility in RAID 5 for example, or RAID 0 if you not carry about the disk array failover at all.

Also you should check the compatibilty of ESXi with your disks and storage controller in VMware Compatibility Guide: System Search, but if your disks are all the same model i guess there is no need to do that.

Actually the good practice it not to run vms on the vmfs volume which is located on local disks, but i think you have no choice.

Sorry for my bad english.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for assistance. Please see following details;

Installed ESXi Host:  5.0
Installed vSphere client version:  5.5

Installed vSphere client file executable: VMware-viclient-all-5.5.0-1618071

Message displayed from client:

Capture.PNG

The ESXi host 5.0 is listening at http://131.107.0.50. This URL is exposed and to be honest the link it shows to download vSphere client is pretty useless...because that link itself is referring to online URL. Please see image below. When we point mouse pointer to that link it shows the URL which cropped and showed here.

There is no doubt vSphere 5.5 client would be able to manage an ESXi 5.0 host; but alas the client itself won't install properly to begin with.

Unable to install IaaS

I could sure use some advice on this everyone.  Very frustrating trying to just install the IaaS component.

I am setting up a distributed installation going through a Citrix Netscaler VPX Load balancer.

I of course have 2 vcac appliance with it's virtual VIP: vcloud.pslab.internal

next is the IaaS server with a vip of: vcacweb.pslab.internal

Successfully configured the appliance but I am having very difficult time trying to install IaaS

Here is the list of preliminary steps prior to installing Website and Model Manager.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.       Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installed

  1. IIS Server Role installed
Currently only Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.5 is supported. IIS Server role must be installed with the following Role Services using Server Manager (More information on installing IIS can be found here):
    1. Static Content
    2. Default Document
    3. HTTP Redirection (required for vCAC Self-Service Portal)
    4. ASP.NET
    5. ISAPI Extensions
    6. ISAPI Filter
    7. Windows Authentication

  1. IIS Authentication configuration
After installing IIS, you’ll need to do some configuration within IIS:
    1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
    2. In the tree pane, expand the <machine name>, Sites, to reach the Default Web Site
    3. In the results pane, double click on Authentication
    4. Disable Anonymous Authentication
    5. Enable Windows Authentication
    6. Highlight Windows Authentication and click on Providers under Actions on the right hand side

  i.      Remove Negotiate from the Enabled Providers list

ii.      Add Negotiate back into the list, making sure it is the first provider in the list. (This is necessary due to a bug in IIS)

iii.      Both Negotiate and NTLM providers should be enabled

    1. Open Advanced Settings (above Providers)
    2. i.      In the drop down box for Extended Protection change it to Accept and then change it back to Off again
    3. ii.      Kernel-Mode Authentication should be enabled
    4. iii.      Click OK. (This is necessary due to a bug in IIS)
  1. Windows Process Activation Service installedthe following procedure to add the Windows Process Activation Service feature:
    1. Open Server Manager
    2. Expand the Windows Process Activation Service feature

  i.      Select Process Model, .Net Environment, Configuration APIs

    1. Expand the .Net Framework 3.5.1 Features
    2. i.      Select both .Net Framework 3.5.1 and WCF Activatio
    3. ii.      Make sure that both HTTP Activation and Non-HTTP Activation is selected
    4. Complete the installation of the Windows Features

Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator Service (MS DTC) enabled

Log on as a batch job right

Log on as a service right

Added  DisableLoobBackChecking to the registry

added Disablestrictnamechecking to the registry

My domain account is in the Administrator group

Follower Kendricks blog and ran the pre auto script

http://www.kendrickcoleman.com/index.php/Tech-Blog/how-to-install-vcloud-automation-center-vcac-60-part-3-iaas-components.html

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I incuded screenshots of the installation process.

After all the steps required, I can install IaaS.  Very frustating guys, I tell ya.  The installation fails at this point

every time

Looking through the other treads.  Any idea why vCAC is so difficult to set up?

Resolved this issue.  the vCAC times were wrong which was causing SSO redirection to fail.

"The traditional vSphere Client will continue to operate, supporting the same features set as vSphere 5.0..."

vSphere Client in above statement means vSphere 5.5 traditional Client not 5.0 Client.

You need vSphere 5.0 Client to manage ESXi 5.0 host.

Dear Mustafa,

Thank you for the comment. So are you saying a vSphere 5.5 client cannot manage a vSphere 5.0 host?
Can someone certify this please? Thanks.

Shahzad.

Hi,

What version of operating system are you using? Please make sure you do NOT have dot net 4.5.1 and only 4.5

If you try to reinstall, make sure you remove the database from the database server, the vcac iaas application from the server and any folders in program files (x86). Make sure you have everything set up as before in terms of the batch logon service accounts etc.

This blog is very handy for installing the IaaS components. http://grantorchard.com/vcac/implementation/vcac-6-0-iaas-installation/

I agree - the distributed install of vCAC can be tricky and hopefully that will improve over time.
