Although you could setup EtherChannel (for how to do this and the limitations see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004048) I would not do it. I usually configure the physical Cisco switch ports as either Access or Trunk ports (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004074) which allows to connect the ESXi hosts to multiple switches for redundancy purposes without the need to take care of spanning-tree issues. Using the default policies for the vSwitch and port groups, the network load of multiple VMs is usually well distributed acroos all uplinks.

If you want you can find out which VM is assigned to which uplink using esxtop from the host's command line.

VMRC IE11 only possible admin privileges or disabled protected mode?

Hello,

i got the vrmc working with Firexox and Chrome. But when I try the same with IE i have some issues. First i have to run it in compatibility mode. This is ok for me. But then when I try to connect it only works when I either start IE with admin privileges or I disable the protected mode. Is there a way to get a connection in protected mode and adjust the security settings?

I have the same problem. Maybe it is possible not to give access via acquireCloneTicket() but with username and password to the vm.

Thanks andre .

and last question :

assume we set up teaming and put those NIC in a group . other side we have cisco switch lets say 2960 .

for nic teaming to work , should we config switch for Etherchannel ? if we don't set up etherchannel on switch do we have nic teaming still ?

and what's difference between them ?

Do you see the LUN from the "Storage Adapters" view? If not, please see whether a rescan changes anything.

I'll do what you advice me.

A snapshot is taken when powering off. I thought that every snapshot only comsumes the .vmsn file and that virtual disks were not involved.

Thanks Andre'

Looks like I have become really rusty in HW now anyway I was pressing F8 when it was at the ILO and it was taking me to ILO settings and then I waited and then saw another F8 command appear and found that it takes me to the disk drive configuration as you had mentioned.

Yeah I set it to RAID 5 and I got around 203GB. At least now I can create 4 VMs on it and put some GUEST OS to practice. Very helpful. As, I said I have become really rusty..... without touching HW for almost several years.

Thank you and you were very helpful also. Appreciate your response.

The .vmsn file only contains the VM's latest configuration and - in case of a powered on VM - its memory state. With each snapshot you take, the current virtual disk file (.vmdk) is treated as read-only and a new one (or multiple, depending on the virtual disk format) is created for changes/writes. All the snapshots are then used as a chain, where each chain link contains data.

Although VMware KB: Understanding virtual machine snapshots in VMware ESXi and ESX describes snapshots for ESXi, it's worth reading as this is similar for VMware Workstation.

Interesting, the main site server page  indicates "64-bit only" on clicking download and doesn't appear to offer another option. But I see that when you select Older Versions, the PC version of 14.04 is listed. Thanks!

Retrying, I selected ubuntu 64bit instead of ubuntu during install, and got the message about VT-x not being enabled. Once I enabled hardware virtualization in the bios (listed under security rather than CPU), I was able to complete the installation.

Yes I can see it under Storage Adapters.

To recap, the LUN is visible under Storage Adapters, but doesn't show up in the "Add Storage" wizard?

Just out of curiosity, can you try to create the datastore by connecting directly to an ESXi Host rather than to the vCenter Server?

I am going to try that approach.  Man, I hope that works.

all apps crashes on windows server 2003 if you don't run them as admin

Hello,

I have several thinapped apps running on different pcs.

When I run them on windows server 2003 as domain-user all of them crashes when I use the file open dialogue and I navigate to the explorer-top.

Some crashes at startup. For example Adobe reader.

When I run them as domain-admin everything works fine.

Does anyone know what I can do?

OK, I have just found what went "wrong".  Those videos are "optimized" for Internet Explorer!   Yeah, I had tried on Firefox and Chrome, on XP Pro and Win7, nothing worked.  Then after reading your message, I thought "what if I try I.E.?"  ... and indeed, the videos are shown inside I.E.  I suddenly had a bad feeling like I was thrown back to the beginning of the 21st century!

Come on!  Who would still make website "optimized" only to I.E. nowadays?   I'm pretty sure they won't be displayed on my tablet either.

I have found these videos in YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xss_2Qx51fU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adrO7SXyjBE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lkMIqgfOj0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHUjDWpHJvU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MofPJsG9gQ

I think they are the same videos (but the quality is really bad ... 360p... oh geez!).  Anyone could confirm they are indeed the same as those in vmware.com?  Thx

PS: Oh, about "Help" section, I had found it at Help | United States but I didn't see any subsection telling me how to report issue on the website.

I wouldn't waste my time using the Snapshot Manager to clean this up and instead use vmware-vdiskmanager to create a new .vmdk while pointing it to the latest snapshot disk and then swap out the disks manually editing the .vmx configuration file.  I believe this to be much faster then using the Snapshot Manager considering how many Snapshot you have.  Then you do not necessarily need to backup the existing VM.

That correct A.P, it doesn't show up in the "Add Storage wizard".

I can see other LUN's in the wizard but not the one I need.

I haven't tried directly from the host I will try that on Tuesday when i'm back.

Could it be because the LUN is already formatted as I used it previously?

For Windows XP you can copy and paste %TEMP%\VMwareDnD into the Windows Explorer Address Bar and press Enter.

Or e.g.: C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\VMwareDnD

Also make sure you actually have adequate free space in the Guest OSes Filesystem to copy the size of files you're copying even after clearing VMwareDnD which is supposed to clear itself automatically
