If you're using VMware Player 6.0,1 on a Windows Host and want to install VMware Tools in Windows 7 then do the following which is a workaround to whatever issue you're having that is not allowing to download VMware Tools automatically.

 

Download tools-windows-9.6.1.exe.tar onto the Host, not the Guest, and untar it.  Then execute the extracted tools-windows-9.6.1.exe file.  This (silently) installs VMware Tools for Windows (windows.iso) into the working directory of VMware Player.  You should then be able to install VMware Tools normally from the Menu however if it doesn't work then attach the windows.iso to the VM's CD/DVD and run the setup from with the Windows VM.

Ubuntu 14.04 and VMware 6.0.2 USB

I installed VMware 6.02 on an Ubuntu 14.04 (the latest) host and I installed XP w/ SP3 as a VM and the USB is not working properly as my iPod will not be found.

Any ideas?

OK I'm trying a new tack;  Is there a way to determine exactly which machines were in my menu when I used to run fusion on the old system?  Then at least I can be 100% sure of the directory I was trying to run from.

 

That is to say, when I used to start vmware, it would give me a choice of several machines that I used.  Is this menu (and the necessary directories/files associated) stored off somewhere?

 

I also tried my old 3.x executable on another (old) mac laptop to try to see if I could open the machines, but my license key didn't work.  So I couldn't try this out either.  :-(  I have since asked vmware support for a temporary key for this exercise.

 

Regarding the support bundle, I'm not really sure if I did that correctly.  I just asked it to start and away it went.  I am thinking I should probably point it to the directories I THOUGHT these machines were in (in my saved archive) but I don't really know how to do that.

Reboot IS required to make sure you use the new openSSL version, after reboot create new SSL cert and change passwords!

Simple noob question but why so many vmdm files?

I have a work macbook air with fusion. Everything was pre-conigured by the IT department. Under Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 7.vmwarevm/ I have 17 vmdm files at 2GB (ish). Why not one big file, is there some legacy file size limit in OSX Mountain Lion?

Reboot is the cleanest if you can afford it.

But using the python script command line tool I observed the vulnerability was removed post patch.

 

After updating keys

 

cd /etc/vmware/ssl
/sbin/generate-certificates
chmod +t rui.crt
chmod +t rui.key
passwd root


Shouldn't a service restart be sufficient?


/etc/init.d/hostd restart
/etc/init.d/vpxa restart


To avoid the prolonged reboot procedure?

Finding hosts connected to datastore clusters

Is there a way to determine the hosts connected to a datastore cluster?

 

I found I can return the datastore clusters in vcenter by using the following:

 

var datastoreClusters = Server.findAllForType("Vc:StoragePod", null);

 

The problem is if I’m deploying to a cluster with only regular datastores for example, that piece of code returns the datastore cluster as a valid option when it isn’t since. I have already selected a host to deploy my vm to by this point in my workflow, so if I could determine what hosts are connected to the datastore cluster, I could eliminate it as an option.

 

So… anyone know how to find the hosts connected to a datastore cluster?

 

(I think the best option is to select datastore objects and datastore cluster objects connected to a given host though. I couldn’t figure it out so in the case of regular datastores, I just get all datastores and then loop though the results to see if it’s connected to my host. Probably not the most efficient way but it seems to work)

I'm about to upgrade to 5.5.1 (from 5.1.1) and I'm trying to determine if I'm going to get hit by this issue with the inventory service.

 

How do I know if my code is making use of the inventory service? Is anything that uses VcPlugin.something affected? Some other functions?

Buongiorno a tutti,

 

Sto cercando di comprare un computer per poter creare un lab casalingo per replicare il laboratorio che ho fatto durante un corso vmware. Ho cercato in vari forum , ma insomma non ho trovato niente adatto alle mie tasche. Per il momento mi basterebbe implementare il laboratorio in virtuale, sostanzialmente installando due esxi più una virtual san, tipo open filer su vmware workstatation. Mi sembra di aver capito che installando i due esxi come guest su vmware workstation l'unico parametro di compatibilità a cui devo stare attento è la CPU che deve avere i le vt-x. Ho fatto due preventivi su un sito che vende macchine ricondizionate, mi potete dire se secondo voi possono andar bene per il mio scopo? A questo hardware aggiungerei un disco SSD su cui installare le VM. Ogni vostro consiglio sarà un grande aiuto

datastore clusters and i/o control

I have an EqualLogic array and if I understand the docs correctly, they say to disable storage i/o control in VMware and let the SAN handle it.

 

Suppose I present multiple luns from the EqualLogic to VMware and put them in a datastore cluster. Can I enable storage drs and still use i/o metrics for decision making? Turning on i/o metrics for decision makingn seems to turn on storage i/o control which I can disable on all the datastore manually. In that same screen, it seems like I should uncheck the disable storage i/o stats collection so storage drs can do its thing. Am I correct or should I leave it check (disabled)?

Virtualisation de 30 hotes avec ESXi 5.5 Gratuit

Salut à tous,

Je planifie un projet de virtualisation de 30 sites connectés en VPN à un site central. Nous prévoyons d'installer un serveur et creat 25 win7 machines virtuelles sur eatch site. Après le dimensionnement du serveur, nous allons avoir un disque dur de 1 To, 64 Go de RAM et 2 processeurs 4 cœurs de chacun. J'ai entendu dire que VMware a une version gratuite d'ESXi 5.5 qui peut être utilisé avec plus de 64 Go de RAM. voici ce que nous voulons faire.

Sur chacun des 30 sites que nous voulons installer la version gratuite d'ESXi 5.5 pour accueillir 25 machines virtuelles.

Sur le site du Centre (HQ) nous voulons obtenir une version sous licence de vCenter pour gérer l'ensemble des 30 hôte des sites distants.

Est-ce que ça va fonctionner? Est la version gratuite de VMware ESXi 5.5 est capable de gérer deux processeurs, 64 Go et 1 To RAID 5 Disque?

Display Resolution Problem VMWare Fusion 6.0.3 [10.6.8 Server Virtual Machine]

Hello,

 

The display resolution for my 10.6 Server virtual machine is ONLY 1024x768 on a 27" iMac 256gb SSD with 10.9.2 Mavericks.  This is unacceptable.  I need instructions on how to fix the virtual machine display resolution so that it is at the iMac's native resolution of 2560x1440.  Please Help.

Look at the blueprint you are studying for and write questions based on those objectives.

 

If you can think of a question that can be asked based on the blueprint, it can be on the exam.

 

Note also, just because Auto-deploy isn't mentioned specifically on the 5.5 blueprint doesn't mean it can't be included under :

Objective 7.1 – Execute VMware Cmdlets and Customize Scripts Using PowerCLI

Yes you can do that. But keep in mind that Storage IO Control and IO Load Balancing (IO Metrics from SDRS) are different when it comes to enforcement. SIOC is per datastore and it enforces right away when there is IO contention based on shares. IO Load Balancing from SDRS is calculated per an amount of time and does storage vMotions to balance out the datastores in a datastore cluster.

 

You can still enable I/O metric if that's what you want and then turn off SIOC but my suggestion is to leave automation to Manual. You don't want SDRS suddenly performing storage vMotions in the middle of the day.

IF  there is a way you    could  swing an upgrade to WS 10.0.2 (granted pretty pricy at $119 for an upgrade)  I think you     would have much better luck dealing with kernel upgrades.  Sovled a lot of my problems.
