Mouse jurky when going from host to guest OS (VMware Player 6.0.2)

Hello,

When I move my mouse from the Host to Guest OS and back the mouse is not smooth.  It bounces randomly and it's kinda annoying.  I have been using Virtualbox and works smoothly, so I figured maybe there is an option that needs to be enabled or disabled to correct this problem.

Host OS - Win7 Pro (all updated)

Graphics - Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 (driver v335.23)

CPU - i7 960

Guest OS - WinXP (all updated and vmware tools installed successfully)

Thanks

System Freeze on Windows 7 with Ubuntu 14.04 Guest

Been using VMWARE Workstation since Version 6, first time I have had a serious issue. I just installed workstation 10.0.2 and am having an issue with a hard system freeze working with Ubuntu 14.04.

Host is Workstation 7 ultimate 64 bit with a compliant VT Core I7 970 and 12 gig memory. Guest is Ubuntu 14.04 desktop 32 bit. I've spent about 6 hours trying come up with a scenario of why at random times the system goes into a hard freeze requiring a reset.

To make sure it wasn't a memory issue I ran memtest, plus hard drive diagnostics...both were clean.

I've zipped and uploaded the VMware log files and hope the problem can be pinpointed.

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure I added the hosts directly to the cluster. Maybe it's related to the host version!?

Anyway, I wouldn't worry if adding the host to the datacenter and then moving it to the cluster is required. As long as vCenter Server allows the host to be moved to the cluster everything should be ok.

Are you running the converter on the system you are going to virtualize? In this case select "This local machine" rather than a remote system.

OK ... the vmkernel.log on both machines :

2014-04-19T14:59:40.584Z cpu10:33258)LVM: 8349: Device eui.22cd000155a3fe57:1 detected to be a snapshot:

2014-04-19T14:59:40.584Z cpu10:33258)LVM: 8356:   queried disk ID: <type 1, len 44, lun 0, devType 0, scsi 0, h(id) 10402944932408356314>

2014-04-19T14:59:40.584Z cpu10:33258)LVM: 8363:   on-disk disk ID: <type 1, len 44, lun 0, devType 0, scsi 0, h(id) 15507285305951941117>

So I guess they are seeing it as a snapshot ... the LUN ID appears correct (eui.22cd000155a3fe57:1) on both machines,

The Device ID is the same on both machines (eui.22cd000155a3fe57) and formated as VMFS 5.60

I will try : esxcli storage vmfs snapshot mount -u <VMFS UUID> Ithe next time I reboot one of the servers...

Is there a "correct" procedure to remove the "snapshot" status from the drive?

From what i can see, the procedure is:

  1. Shutdown all Guests
  2. deregister the Guests
  3. Place both Servers in Maintenance mode
  4. unmount the iSCSI from both servers
  5. resignature the iSCSI using on server
  6. remount the iSCSI on both servers
  7. Remove both servers from maintenance mode.
  8. reregister the Guests
  9. power on all Guests

Am I right in assuming that performing a resignature is not destructive to data already on the drive, it's just changing the UUID of the drive ?

And therefor, in theory, the "queried disk ID" and the "on-disk disk ID"  in the vmkernel.log output above would then be the same IDs ?

Thanks in advance.

Do the LUNs currently show up as snapshot LUNs if you run:

esxcli storage vmfs snapshot list

Without knowing what was causing the LUNs as being detected as snapshot LUNs, it's hard to say what needs to be done. I'd actually double check how the LUNs are presented to the hosts (on the storage system) and - if there's nothing unusual - persistently mount the LUN next time. Since the non-persistent mount (lower-case "-m") worked for you, I would not expect any issues with the persistent mount.

VMware View 5.x Rebalancing across multiple datastore

$

Hello All,

It's my first time here and new to vmware view also, please bear with me.

I have 3 desktop pools and I recently did a rebalancing of my pools across 2 datastore. The rebalancing went successful and no errors. However, the Linked-cloned VDIs were not migrated to the other datastore as if nothing happens. I was wondering If I missed something?

Thank you.

Best Regards

John

If the version you have does not qualify for the upgrade path then yes you'd need to purchase a new license at full price if you cannot find and discounts anywhere.

connecting a host to a NAS device via x-over cable

i recently inherited a nightmare! Anyone know how to configure an ESX 3.0 host to connect to a NAS device using a crossover cable on an available NIC port? i need a FAST method to move a VM (7) to this NAS but cannot waste hours doing so. copies over this horrible network take forever. cloning does not seem to be an option in 3.0 as it is in later versions. there is no option to export to OVA.

what i was able to do so far was mount the NAS as a datastore in ESX, but again the only option i am seeing is to do a straight copy

any suggestions??

Followed your process but I am still getting the same error concerning ModelManager.  Is there something SQL related that could be the problem?

Did the datastores already have near the same amount of free space? A rebalance may not move desktops around if the free space is not substantially different.

I'm currently in need of this feature too. I did some research and it seems like VDDK is what one would normally use to mount disk images in VMware Fusion/Workstation/Player/Server. The problem for me is that it does not have SDK for OSX. :/

How can I tell the VMware DbgServer stub to set a processor core during kernel debugging session?

I'm using the VMware DbgServer stub for kernel mode debugging a Windows X86 VM and I want to set a different thread (or processor) in order to get/set the processor context, but the DbgServer replies that the target only has one thread running.

(gdb) info threads

Sending packet:

Packet received: OK

Packet received: m1

Sending packet: $qsThreadInfo#c8...Ack

Questions:

1.  How can I tell the VMware DbgServer stub to set a processor core or even another thread during kernel debugging session?

2.  How can I set/get context or stepping from a different thread or processor core?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex.

Re: help with updating vmware fusion 3.x images to fusion 6

Hi Woody,

Please see the support information attached.

I have both a manually saved copy and I've also tried the version saved off with Time Machine.  The two directories look the same between the two versions.

At this point I would be happy just to be able to boot up my Linux workstation and collect some data from it.  I have an older mac with 10.6 on it, and I copied over the old 3.x fusion executable.  I was prompted for my key, which I still have and entered.  But it said the key was not valid.  Is it possible to get a temporary key so I can simply collect my data from the old workstation?

ESXi 5.5 heartbleed patches---question

$

So today vmware released the following 2 patches esxi 5.5:

201404001

201404020

The 4020 appears to just the openssl fix,,,while the 4001 appears to have the openssl fix and some others.

I am curious because i applied the lowest build first(4001) and the rebooted. Upon applying 4020 (esxcli software vib update) it stated nothing needed to be patched all vibs were skipped.

Why did vmware bring out the 2 patches like this? It seems odd to me, because if I only wanted the openssl patch it appears I get put on a higher build number, than if I wanted the openssl patch and the other fixes.

A bit confused.

Unfortunately the support bundle did not contain the expected information for the Virtual Machine Package(s) or Folder(s) if not packaged, e.g. a file list, log files etc. so there is nothing for me to analyze.
